It's Raining Cats in Kansas
USSFN 5/02/03 - Well, okay, so I meant catfish.
The Division of Wildlife and Parks is doing it's share in Kansas to promote
fishing in urban areas that might otherwise be lacking. From April
through September, the goal of the Urban Fishing Program is to provide
accessibility to better fishing in urban areas. They are accomplishing
this by stocking Channel Catfish in 60 lakes accessible to the public
throughout the state. It appears that anywhere from 88 to 500 small cats are being stocked in each of the lakes on a regular basis. Many of these lakes also include largemouth bass, carp, bluegill, crappie, and other species. Just remember that if you intend to take advantage of this program, check with your local officials first. In at least one case, an additional City Fishing License/Permit is required. If you'd like more information on this and other programs offered by the Kansas Division of Wildlife and Parks, simply click here to visit their website. - Jim |
