Mother Nature vs. Louisiana
DWF
USSFN: 11/26/02 - Mother Nature and Louisiana anglers won a
round against the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
According to the
LDWF website, "The department had initiated a drawdown of the lake in an effort to control
submerged aquatic vegetation. However, heavy rainfall during October and
November have caused water levels in the lake to reach flood stage. The flooding
of the lake will prevent the lake bottom from being exposed for a sufficient
period of time to obtain the desired results. Therefore, the gates on Iatt Lake
have been closed in order to allow the water level to remain at pool stage and
for fishing activities to resume. The aquatic plant problems are expected to
persist, but the department is discussing another drawdown attempt in 2003."
All kidding aside, LDWF does need to complete
this project for the benefit of everyone. The eventual drawdown will
enhance sportfishing in the long run.
